Starting week 4 I am loving every inch of this country. Being the first time I've had internet access for an extended period of time, and the first time I've had it at all at my school, we've finished traveling the east part of the country, are settled into school and have finished our first week of classes and tests. We went to Beijing and saw the Great Wall, as well as Shanghai and saw the bund (and my second(ish) cousin) and last but not least we went to Xi'an and saw the Terra Cotta Warriors.
The food here is great! There is a lot of exotic meat/meat in general (like camel, ostrich, chicken feet, and of course chicken and beef etc) but there is also a lot of food for vegetarians. It might be hard to be a vegan here though. There are a lot of various vegetables, breads, desserts like ice-cream and sweet bread, and vegetable dumplings or noodles. There are a lot of outdoor vegetable markets and outdoor street vendors selling food or clothes. The weather has been pretty hot and nice except for the past two days which have been rainy.
Someone on my trip has already gotten sick so at least I know how to master one bus route and know where the hospital is if worse comes to worse and I get sick too. Our campus/Kunming (which is the city I'm in) is beautiful and we get speaking partners to practice our Chinese with, have as friends and people to help us translate. We have a Chinese speaking class and a comprehensive writing and speaking class. We also have a Chinese culture class, taiji every weekday morning at 7:20 sharp and a calligraphy class.
Speaking of class, I need to start preparing for my upcoming week of classes, but more to come...
